Recent Release: The Merit Birds by Kelley Powell

Most of the time when a new and exciting book has been released I share one - or a lot of - recent releases posts. Of course, this goes straight to my too large TBR-pile, but oh well. It's books - we need 'em.

Series: stand-alone
Genre: YA, contemporary
Publisher: Dundurn Group
Publication Date: May 2nd 2015
Length: 240 pages

Synopsis:

Eighteen-year-old Cam Scott is angry. He's angry about his absent dad, he's angry about being angry, and he's angry that he has had to give up his Ottawa basketball team to follow his mom to her new job in Vientiane, Laos. However, Cam's anger begins to melt under the Southeast Asian sun as he finds friendship with his neighbour, Somchai, and gradually falls in love with Nok, who teaches him about building merit, or karma, by doing good deeds, such as purchasing caged "merit birds." Tragedy strikes and Cam finds himself falsely accused of a crime. His freedom depends on a person he's never met. A person who knows that the only way to restore his merit is to confess. "The Merit Birds" blends action and suspense and humour in a far-off land where things seem so different, yet deep down are so much the same.

Recent Release: Trail of Broken Wings by Sejal Badani

Most of the time when a new and exciting book has been released I share one - or a lot of - recent releases posts. Of course, this goes straight to my too large TBR-pile, but oh well. It's books - we need 'em.

Series: stand-alone
Genre: Adult, women's fiction
Publisher: Lake Union Publishing
Publication Date: May 1st 2015
Length: 387 pages

Synopsis:

When her father falls into a coma, Indian American photographer Sonya reluctantly returns to the family she’d fled years before. Since she left home, Sonya has lived on the run, free of any ties, while her soft-spoken sister, Trisha, has created a perfect suburban life, and her ambitious sister, Marin, has built her own successful career. But as these women come together, their various methods of coping with a terrifying history can no longer hold their memories at bay.

Buried secrets rise to the surface as their father—the victim of humiliating racism and perpetrator of horrible violence—remains unconscious. As his condition worsens, the daughters and their mother wrestle with private hopes for his survival or death, as well as their own demons and buried secrets.

Told with forceful honesty, Trail of Broken Wings reveals the burden of shame and secrets, the toxicity of cruelty and aggression, and the exquisite, liberating power of speaking and owning truth.

Recent Release #1: After Dark by M. Pierce

Every Thursday I share a recent release that I'm excited about. Of course, this goes straight
to my too large TBR-pile, but oh well. It's books - we need 'em.

Genre: Adult, romance; erotica
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Publication Date: March 24th 2015
Length: 272 pages

At twenty-nine, Matt Sky is trying to return to normal, having faked his death and come back to life. He and Hannah move to a simple house in the suburbs, and strive to grow their relationship into something durable and honest. They become more and more entangled, in the best ways possible.

At twenty-eight, Hannah finally has the life she's always wanted: she's pursuing her career as a literary agent at Granite Wing Agency, she is writing her first solo novel, and she is living with her hot, passionate lover. For the first time, Matt and Hannah are able to explore intimacy without inhibitions—without lies, secrets, or jealousy—and the results are explosive.

Still life together is not as easy as it seems. Matt is estranged from his brothers in the wake of his cruel stunt; Seth Sky, embittered by his failed pursuit of Hannah, makes a play for Hannah's sister; and the topic of Hannah's novel—her relationship with Matt and the Sky family—is driving a wedge between her and Matt. The lovers are devoted to one another, having come through many ordeals, but is their bond strong enough to last a lifetime?

PAPER TOWNS TRAILER!!!

Okay, so I realize this is a bit late but c'mon, there needs to be more hype about this. Paper towns is my favorite John Green book and I just can't wait for the movie. So prepare for me fangirling when I've finally seen the movie.

Just in case you haven't seen it, you can watch it here:

How can somebody not be excited for this? I mean, gaahhh.

Everybody knows Nat Wolff from tfios and Behaving Badly but in this role he seems like a more grown-up character which is awesome and then we have Cara Delevingne. Oh, that woman. Oh my God. She's perfection in an human form, that's just the way it is.

What are your thoughts about it? Have you read the book? Are you gonna go see the movie?

February wrap-up

Wait. HOLD UP!
Is February over?! The times actually flies by. Wow.

But since February is over I thought I'd do a February Wrap-up, like I did last month. I actually don't know how many books I read in February but I think there were a lot sooo... Let's get going.

February wrap-up

I read a total of 18 books in February! The same amount as in January and I am now 32 books ahead of schedule. This, once again mean that in November during NaNoWriMo, I can sit back and not worry about skipping reading.

Feminism & erotica novels

I have something to say and I need to frank about it.

Some people have asked me how I can be a feminist and at the same time read and like erotica novels. I guess what they're asking me is how I can read books that they think are condescending towards women when I stand for the exact opposite.
So what you're asking me right now is how I can read a book about two people who are attracted to each other, two people who have sex because they are attracted to each other and because they enjoy it? You must be butterflying mental because I really don't see what you use to think with.

Let me remind you what feminism is all about. Feminism is about equality between both genders.
So the real question you're asking me right now is: How can you support books that drags women under the surface and supports men's need?
Have you ever thought that maybe women likes sex too? That we like to pleasure ourselves? That we can be just as turned on as men? Because we can. We have everything in common with men except for one single chromosome.

I am all about women having the same rights and possibilities as men. If I or any other woman would want to work as a pilot, truck-driver or any other work that the world considers "manly" then that woman should be able to do that. Just because we have a vagina and you have a penis doesn't mean that we're incapable to do certain things.

Back to the actual subject. How can I read erotica novels when they - according to you - pull women below the surface?
As I told you before I am all about women feeling and experiencing the exact same things as men and for men to feel and experience the exact same things as women.

In erotica novels it's hardly ever that the woman the story revolves around doesn't enjoy herself. She enjoys sex 'cause that's how we're built. Sex is a natural thing to us and if you think you're really complex and intellectual by asking me that same question over and over again I suggest you take a step back and start asking yourself why you think that.
Now, I'm not saying that people aren't entitled to their own opinions; 'cause they are! But if I've told you over and over again how I feel about feminism and erotica novels mashing together then that's it. If you think I have a horrible opinion then fine, let it be, but it's my opinion and it's not changing.

You get to have you're opinion but that doesn't mean that I have to feel and think the exact same as you. My opinion is my opinion, and your opinion is your opinion. It's not harder than that.

Valentine's Day

Yes, I realize that Valentine's Day is over. But still, it's not.
Here, in Sweden we celebrate Valentine's on the 14th. Meaning that today is Valentine's Day for me.
How will I be spending my Valentine's Day is a good question.
Well, I was planning on meeting up with some friends but it all got really complicated so I think that's off the chart. So, I'm probably spending this Saturday in my bed with my current read; Where the Road Takes Me by Jay McClean. I'll probably call over my friend Jennifer and we'll bake a chocolate cake of some sort and we'll celebrate how good it is to be single. I think that sounds like a plan. And yay, it just got confirmed. I'm surprised how well it works out by writing: "JENNIFER SPEND VALENTINES WITH ME ILL BAKE YOU A CHOCOLATE CAKE AND WE'LL WATCH SOME CHEESY ROMANCE MOVIES AND CELEBRATE HOW AWESOME IT IS TO BE SINGLE" Yes, all in capital letter and all in the same sentence.

What are you reading for this love weekend? Something you'd mind to share?

I would like to share some romance recommendations for you.
Let's get started!

To All the Boy I've Loved Before by Jenny Han

I realize that a lot people have probably already read this but I still want to make some noise about it since the sequel is being released in a few months!

Blurb: To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is the story of Lara Jean, who has never openly admitted her crushes, but instead wrote each boy a letter about how she felt, sealed it, and hid it in a box under her bed. But one day Lara Jean discovers that somehow her secret box of letters has been mailed, causing all her crushes from her past to confront her about the letters: her first kiss, the boy from summer camp, even her sister's ex-boyfriend, Josh. As she learns to deal with her past loves face to face, Lara Jean discovers that something good may come out of these letters after all.

Why you should read it: Have you ever wished for that book? The book you could get through on just one day? This is that book.
Jenny Han has a special writing style that just makes the words flow. The whole story goes by in smooth words and intrigues you until the very end. A must read!

Anna, Lola & Isla by Stephenie Perkins

Anna and the French Kiss, Lola and the Boy Next Door & Isla and the Happily Ever After are all amazing books. It took me three days to get through all three books - with school. I actually don't think I've ever met anyone that does not like these books. And I would be surprised if I ever did.

Anna, blurb: Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris--until she meets Étienne St. Clair. Smart, charming, beautiful, Étienne has it all...including a serious girlfriend.

But in the City of Light, wishes have a way of coming true. Will a year of romantic near-misses end with their long-awaited French kiss?

Lola, blurb: Lola Nolan is a budding costume designer, and for her, the more outrageous, sparkly, and fun the outfit, the better. And everything is pretty perfect in her life (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the negihborhood. When Cricket, a gifted inventor, steps out from his twin sister's shadow and back into Lola's life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.

Isla, blurb: Hopeless romantic Isla has had a crush on introspective cartoonist Josh since their first year at the School of America in Paris. And after a chance encounter in Manhattan over the summer, romance might be closer than Isla imagined. But as they begin their senior year back in France, Isla and Josh are forced to confront the challenges every young couple must face, including family drama, uncertainty about their college futures, and the very real possibility of being apart.

Why you should read these books: First of all, have you seen those covers? I would want to read them only because of their covers. Second of all, they include  Ã‰tienne St. Clair and if that is not reason enough for you, I seriously don't know what is. Also, of course the books are incredibly, incredibly good.

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

(one of my favorite book of ALL time)

Blurb: Two misfits.
One extraordinary love.

Eleanor
... Red hair, wrong clothes. Standing behind him until he turns his head. Lying beside him until he wakes up. Making everyone else seem drabber and flatter and never good enough...Eleanor.

Park... He knows she'll love a song before he plays it for her. He laughs at her jokes before she ever gets to the punch line. There's a place on his chest, just below his throat, that makes her want to keep promises...Park.

Set over the course of one school year, this is the story of two star-crossed sixteen-year-olds—smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try.

Why you should read this book: My question to you is: what reason do you not to read it?

Love Hurts by Malorie Blackman

(this s a collection of short stories by Malorie Blackman, Maureen Johnson, Catherine Johnson, Philip Pullman, James Dawson, Jenny Downham, Patrik Ness, E. Lockhart, Lauren Myracle, Laura Dockrill, Gayle Forman, Markus Zusak, Susie Day, David Levithan & Lauren Kate)

Blurb: Malorie Blackman brings together the best teen writers of today in a stunningly romantic collection about love against the odds. Featuring short stories and extracts about modern star-crossed lovers from stars such as Gayle Forman, Markus Zusak and Patrick Ness, and with a brand-new story from Malorie Blackman herself, Love Hurts looks at every kind of relationship, from first kiss to final heartbreak.

Why you should read it: I have no idea since I haven't read it. Though, it sounds amazing and I really want to read it!

That would be all, I guess. So, have a good continuation to you Saturday and a good continuation to those who celebrate Valentine's Day today!
