February wrap-up

Wait. HOLD UP!
Is February over?! The times actually flies by. Wow.

But since February is over I thought I'd do a February Wrap-up, like I did last month. I actually don't know how many books I read in February but I think there were a lot sooo... Let's get going.

February wrap-up

I read a total of 18 books in February! The same amount as in January and I am now 32 books ahead of schedule. This, once again mean that in November during NaNoWriMo, I can sit back and not worry about skipping reading.

Dirty Secrets by Jane O'Reilly

My rating: ★★★★★
Genre: Adult, romance; erotica
Series: Stand-alone (kinda)

Blurb from Goodreads:
Thirty days of discovery…

With her self-esteem at an all-time low following a disastrous relationship Jules just needs a place to hide away, so when her childhood Theo offers her a place to stay she jumps at the chance!

But the handsome, suave and sophisticated man who greets her is unrecognisable as the teenaged nerd she knew ten years ago. She’s out of her depth in Theo’s new world, especially when he reveals the nature of the business that has made him a very wealthy man…

Theo owns and runs an exclusive club, a very private members club, catering to clients seeking something extra to spice up their private lives. But Jules’s shock and embarrassment turns to fascination and excitement when Theo gifts her a complimentary thirty day membership...

My review:

It's funny how people can change without really changing at all.

You can find the review of Dirty Talk (the first book in this series, "kinda") HERE

Did I enjoy this more than Dirty Talk? Hell to the yes. Did I ever think that was possible? Hell to the no.

Jules story was a lot more interesting than Amy's, to be honest. This book was more intense and I don't know, exciting? I think it was the different aspects that made it more intriguing. Jules problems felt more real than Amy's. Her love story was a bit more complex than Amy's. And above all, this book was longer.
I don't know if I mentioned that in my previous review, but I was really frustrated that the books were so short. Dirty Talk is no more than 60 pages and this one is only 70 pages. Both of these books are amazing and I would've loved for them to be longer.

I also mentioned in my previous review how much Dave creeped me out and also how much more that increased while reading this book. I absolutely hate those kind of characters. The controlling and stalking kind. Dave really is the perfect example of everything we don't want in a boyfriend. Or any man, for that matter. While Jules and he were together he made her feel small and worthless, implied that she was fat and that she wasn't good enough. So when they broke up, oh yes, happiness.

During her time at Theo's and John's club she really finds herself. All of those things Dave kept her from feeling or doing came back to her all at once and helped her move on and find herself. And of course, find love.

Theo and John were so sweet, oh my. I mean, just. No, no words. I have no words to explain those two. And *SPOILER IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE BOOK* I absolutely loved that Theo was bisexual! I haven't ever read a book with a character who was bisexual and I think this was the right time to do so.

This really did deserve five stars. And once again, Jane O'Reilly did knock me off my feet. You deserve some loving hugs, woman.

Dirty Talk by Jane O'Reilly

My rating: ★★★★
Genre: Adult, romance; erotica
Series: Stand-alone (kinda)

Blurb from Goodreads:
When words are not enough…

Amy can’t believe she’s let herself be bullied into a write off with the odious Dave. Now she needs to produce twenty pages of a story by next Friday – the content is to be of a very particular nature!

Fortunately Amy has an advantage: she’s a secret – and voracious – reader of erotica and she knows just what turns her on! But when it comes to putting her own words down on paper embarrassment and nerves have left her with a severe case of writers block…

Enter her good friend Phil. While she’s always thought him too sexy to be true her crippling shyness has held her back. But with Phil as her willing muse, Amy’s reality is suddenly more erotic than any fantasy…

My review:

I need to be alone, somewhere safe, with people I can trust. It's a pity all those people seem to be fictional.

Such a fun book. It was incredibly short and so incredible.

This is another short and sexy story by Jane O'Reilly. God, this woman needs to be royally praised. She writes like a goddess.

The heroine is this book is a shy and bookish with a hidden love for erotica novels - me likey. She's not the one to speak up for herself but has so much to say. This whole book is so incredibly impeccably cute and dirty, you can't help but love it. And I sure as hell did.

At first when were introduced to our main character, Amy and she's bullied into writing a twenty-page erotic story you can't help but feel compassion for her and her love for erotica novels but not being able to admit that love to anyone. I think all erotica-lovers can see themselves in her. 'Cause I admit it, telling someone that yes, I like books that are about people with big sexual cravings 'cause they make me feel a tat more romantic that I actually am, is not that easy. Believe me. I've tried.

Phil and Amy's relationship made me smile. At the times when Amy struggled and Phil was there for her I couldn't help but, YES AS ALWAYS, fall in love with him. He was sweet and caring and helped her to come out of her shell. So in the end when everybody's true intentions had come clear I felt heartbroken. Really, really heartbroken.

Dave really creeped me out. I have read the kinda sequel (?), Dirty Secrets which focuses on Amy's former best friend Jules. We get to see more of Dave in that book and it just raised my unnerved feelings about him even more. Those controlling guys that are sculpted in some books creep me out so much.

Review will be up on Dirty Secrets. SOON! And once again, I know this review is far too short but c'mon, it was 60 pages and not so much to reflect over.

I would suggest this to people who are in need of an incredibly short love story - people who aren't afraid of some really hot times.

Hard & Fast by Ana Gabriel

My rating: ★★★★
Genre: NA, romance
Series: Rules to Break #1

Blurb from Goodreads:
Rose Weatherston was top of her acting class in small-town Illinois, but in Hollywood, the only roles she’s being offered are spots on the casting couch.

Faced with the possibility of having to go back home with her tail between her legs, Rose takes a job as a personal assistant to bridge the gap until she can finally land a legitimate acting role.
The advertisement calls for someone discreet, available 24/7, and willing to live-in.
It sounds terrible, and more than a little ominous, but as Rose’s best friend points out, beggars can’t be choosers.

Turns out that she’ll be working for Cole Dean, the international movie star whose face is on the cover of every tabloid. Cole Dean, the lady killer with the mysterious past, electric green eyes and devil’s smile. Cole Dean, who turns out to be wickedly charming and sexy as hell.

Rose tries to deny the instant, intense, and very unwanted attraction. After all, she didn’t say no to the casting couch this many times just to end up sleeping with her boss. But when their mutual desire becomes too much to bear, Rose sets up some ground rules between them.

She never wants to see Cole naked. Ever again. So he can stop working out shirtless and stripping when he knows she’s watching.
She won’t be a personal lackey in his depraved sex life. Thank you very much.
And absolutely, under no circumstances, will they have sex.

But Cole Dean’s charm proves difficult to resist, and before long, Rose finds herself wanting to break every single one of her own rules.

My review:

The problem, Rose, is that it's different for men. Men are allowed to be promiscuous and society turns a blind eye. They can sleep with a dozen girls in one night, and what do they get? A slap on the back and big congratulations. But a woman does the same? She's a slut. A whore.

*ARC received via NetGalley in exchange for honest review*

*this whole review is kinda spoilery so don't read it, if not read the actual book*

Not the most committed review because of reasons.

Hottie-alert as butterfly.
I'd be surprised if someone told me they don't want a Cole Dean 'cause hot damn!

First of all, a very cliche book but irresistible, so the cliche parts are easily over-looked, thank God. The whole setting up rules thing against their relationship felt a bit useless since we all knew what would happen anyway. Wow, I'm sounding really non-committed right now, sorry.

Overall, I did enjoy this. Therefor, the four stars. It didn't "touch me in a specific way", as I've said before but it was easy to read and enjoyable. There were some parts where frustration would get the best of me and I'd put it down. But, after a while I picked it back up again. Typical, I know. I had some problems with it but nothing too big.

I had some problems with the underdeveloped characters. Now, don't take me wrong. I think Rose was amazing with the dream of becoming an actress etc. but Cole. Uh no. Cole couldn't be more underdeveloped and it was a put-off. We barely got to know anything about him, with the exception of the things Rose knew from press and media, which I think is really sad 'cause I think that if Ana Gabriel had taken to develop him a bit more the book would've gotten twice as good.

I feel like we never got to know if their relationship settled. In the end we really don't get to know if they try to have a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship.
Also I had trouble understanding why Rose and Cole fell for each other. There were never times when Rose would feel fuzzy for something he did, except for the sex. Same for Cole; I don't know if he fell in love with her for the way she was or for the way she questioned him but I never felt the wow-I'm-falling-in-love feeling while read this. But that's just my thoughts.

And as previously mentioned, I did enjoy it, nonetheless. Cole was cute at times and as much as I think he's a dull person with a tat too much self-love I couldn't help but like him. Rose, I liked from the beginning but was annoyed with at times.

I read this out loud to my friend at some points where I knew she'd get uncomfortable - the sex parts, obviously.

Personal Geography & Intimate Geography by Tamsen Parker

My rating: ★★★★
Genre: Adult, romance; erotica; BDSM
Series: The Compass #1

Blurb from Goodreads:
Powerhouse consultant India Burke is notorious for her razor-sharp mind, her incisive tongue, and for always being in control. But during her “lost weekends”—out-of-town, one-and-done, anonymous rendezvous solely for the purpose of kinky sex—she craves a submissive role.

Cris Ardmore, India’s latest tryst, is a Dominant who calls an isolated Hawaiian paradise home. India’s expecting forty-eight hours of contractually defined sex, but instead of serving as just another BDSM Band-Aid, Cris wants to know the real India Burke. Despite her aversion to anything approaching intimacy, India is hooked by their incredible sexual chemistry.

With tension ratcheting up in her professional life, India needs the release Cris offers more than ever, but her repeated visits come with their own risks. No matter how strong their attraction, India is determined to maintain her boundaries in order to keep her life whole after her first love blew it apart. She must choose between taking a chance and handing Cris the road map to her heart or locking down her borders before he does any more damage.

My rating: ★★★★
Genre: Adult, romance; erotica; BDSM
Series: The Compass #2

Blurb from Goodreads:
Fiercely protective of her heart, India Burke let down her defenses when Cris Ardmore went from another notch on her D/s playdate belt to everything she could never admit she wanted.

But being disowned by your family and betrayed by your lover aren't easy to get over, and India’s old fears of intimacy creep in against a backdrop of professional drama that forces her return to a place that never really felt like home.

Though she proved her loyalty when it mattered most, love is about more than grand gestures and Cris wants all of her—which may be more than India is able to give. Can Cris and India navigate to a shared future or will they forever be off course?

My review:

Sometimes it seemed like a good idea. To not have anything to worry about. To have no responsibilities. To drown out the chaos in my head.

Personal Geography

Excuse me in advance for the not so committed reviews - I've read quite a few books after these two and I don't remember all of my thoughts.

When I first started reading this I was a bit, well let's call it confused. I haven't read a single book with the exception for Fifty Shades of Grey that included BDSM. But I was a bit curious to continue reading due to the BDSM. Sometimes when I'm in battle mood I take on people who hate on BDSM and I feel like this book is takes on the BDSM-haters twenty-four seven. Now, I am saying that I  myself will never be apart of a BDSM relationship because I could never do that to myself but I absolutely hate it when people talk negative about it. Sure, fine it doesn't seem like the greatest hobby but who are we to judge? It's a life stile like any other and the reason why people get worked up about it is because according to them it's abusive or psychopathic. I actually have a blog post about this - not particularly about BDSM but about sex in books etc. So, what I'm trying to say is that I'm not the straight up BDSM lover but I see nothing wrong with it. Maybe I have personal problems with it but I don't misuse those feeling and I hate it when other people do. It's a life stile that some people chose to live and that is their choice; not yours.

I was so frustrated with India at some times I didn't even know how to cooperate. Now I am not going to talk about which those moments were because I feel like writing a spoiler free review. But gah, that frustration really got the best of me sometimes.

These books were so incredibly well written I feel like all the other books I read after this were amateur written and I annoyed the hell out of myself for thinking that, 'cause the book I read after this was actually really good.

Crispin. Where do I start to explain my love for Crispin? There is no end and no beginning. Crispin Ardmore; oldest living boyfriend.

PS. There is a heart breaking cliffhanger in the end. Just thought you should know.

Intimate Geography

*ARC received via NetGalley in exchange for honest review*

Wow.
I mean the cliffhanger, man. That was painful. That was incredibly painful. And it ended so abruptly. Sorry people who read the first book last year and had/have to wait for the second one but HOW IN THE HOLY HELL DID YOU SURVIVE? I barely survived that hour I had to wait in between finished PG and starting IG. So no, I can see no explanation to your survival #sorrynotsorry.

I believe I enjoyed Intimate Geography a bit more than Personal Geography. Probably because their relationship became more investigated and we got to know more about Crispin and India and absolutely loved that.

The two hospital scenes were incredibly sweet and probably two of my favorite scenes throughout these books. And the epilogue was out of life cute. I loved it sooooooooo much.

Short review, don't care. Okay, that didn't work out just as well as short hair, don't care but whatever.

Forbidden Surrender, Secret Surrender & Beautiful Surrender by Priscilla West

My rating: ★★★★
Genre: NA, romance; erotica
Series: Surrender (Forever) #1

Blurb from Goodreads:

“What gives you a thrill Kristen?”

The minute I saw Vincent Sorenson, I knew he was trouble. Billionaire. Bad boy. And dangerously sexy. He was everything I craved, and nothing I needed.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t just avoid him. The higher ups at my company decided they needed his business, and I was on the team to bring him in. Vincent Sorenson didn’t seem as interested in business as he was in me, but I knew that was a door better left unopened. If I got involved with him, it would only unearth the pain I spent years trying to bury.

I thought I had it under control, but I seriously underestimated Vincent’s seductive charm and silver-tongue. I would soon find out how delicious it would feel to let myself fall into this forbidden surrender.

My rating: ★★★★
Genre: NA, romance; erotica
Series: Surrender (Forever) #2

Blurb from Goodreads:
“What gives you a thrill Kristen?”

I knew that giving in to Vincent Sorenson was a risk, but it was one I was willing to take. I had hidden my heart for so long and for the first time in a long time, Vincent was close to breaking down the walls.

When a trip to Vincent’s exclusive private island reveals the real Vincent underneath the layers of suave nonchalance, I thought we were close to the start of something special.

Just when things were looking up for us, I would discover the one secret that Vincent never intended for me to find.

My rating: ★★★★
Genre: NA, romance; erotica
Series: Surrender (Forever) #3

Blurb from Goodreads:
“What gives you a thrill Kristen?”

The conclusion to the Surrender Series by Priscilla West.

No one is who they seem to be.

Kristen let Vincent into her heart because he seemed so different from everyone in her conservative world of wealth management. She thought they shared something special, but when she realizes that Vincent has been playing her the entire time, her heart is crushed.

As Kristen’s relationship with Vincent reaches a crisis point, a man from Kristen’s past returns looking for a second chance. Is her ex-boyfriend really looking for redemption or is his goal something more sinister?

Kristen struggles to hold herself together, until she discovers a revelation that will change everything.

My review:

He was something in between. Steadfast in pursuit but adaptable. Charming yet respectful. In other words, complex.

Hothothothot.

I read this series at the beginning of this week and have read five more books since then so apologize if this not is the most committed review.

I don't think I've ever read a more easy-going story. This was just all highs and no lows.
It starts off really quickly without an unnecessarily long build-up, which I liked. A lot. And then it just flows without one boring moment.

I want a Vincent Sorenson. Give me one. Now. I was, as always, not able to take guard against all the cheesiness and cuteness which I do not regret a single bit. I don't care that my list of book-boyfriends is growing unbelievably big - as long as authors keeps up with creating amazing male characters my list will continue to grow.

I don't have that much to comment on. It wasn't really "wow-material" but it wasn't bad either. It didn't touch me in any particular place and was just an overall fun read. The books were a bit too short, though. I believe the longest one was approximately 200 pages and I think the West could've filled a few extra pages with more story.

I know this review is far too short and I'm sorry! But I really don't have that much more to say about these books.

Sometimes you have to take a risk because the reward is worth it.

Feminism & erotica novels

I have something to say and I need to frank about it.

Some people have asked me how I can be a feminist and at the same time read and like erotica novels. I guess what they're asking me is how I can read books that they think are condescending towards women when I stand for the exact opposite.
So what you're asking me right now is how I can read a book about two people who are attracted to each other, two people who have sex because they are attracted to each other and because they enjoy it? You must be butterflying mental because I really don't see what you use to think with.

Let me remind you what feminism is all about. Feminism is about equality between both genders.
So the real question you're asking me right now is: How can you support books that drags women under the surface and supports men's need?
Have you ever thought that maybe women likes sex too? That we like to pleasure ourselves? That we can be just as turned on as men? Because we can. We have everything in common with men except for one single chromosome.

I am all about women having the same rights and possibilities as men. If I or any other woman would want to work as a pilot, truck-driver or any other work that the world considers "manly" then that woman should be able to do that. Just because we have a vagina and you have a penis doesn't mean that we're incapable to do certain things.

Back to the actual subject. How can I read erotica novels when they - according to you - pull women below the surface?
As I told you before I am all about women feeling and experiencing the exact same things as men and for men to feel and experience the exact same things as women.

In erotica novels it's hardly ever that the woman the story revolves around doesn't enjoy herself. She enjoys sex 'cause that's how we're built. Sex is a natural thing to us and if you think you're really complex and intellectual by asking me that same question over and over again I suggest you take a step back and start asking yourself why you think that.
Now, I'm not saying that people aren't entitled to their own opinions; 'cause they are! But if I've told you over and over again how I feel about feminism and erotica novels mashing together then that's it. If you think I have a horrible opinion then fine, let it be, but it's my opinion and it's not changing.

You get to have you're opinion but that doesn't mean that I have to feel and think the exact same as you. My opinion is my opinion, and your opinion is your opinion. It's not harder than that.

Review: Forgotten Treasures by D. Hart

My rating: ★★★★★
Genre: NA, romance
Series: stand-alone

Blurb from Goodreads:
In the aftermath of destruction, hearts were destroyed, strengths were stripped, and vulnerabilities were exposed.

A community was ripped apart after a tragic accident, and the loss hit one family particularly hard as it claimed the lives of three, leaving only one surviving member to pick up the pieces and move forward.

Baylor’s life was wiped clean in the blink of an eye. No family, no home, no name. That is, until she met Brandt. He took a chance, giving her hope and a reason to start over. A reason to rebuild a life full of forgotten memories. A reason to trust. A reason to love.

Finding love in all the right places should be easy, but when truths are revealed, it's anything but. Brandt will help her rediscover the true meaning of unconditional eternal love that will prove painful, life altering, and redeeming.

Together, they will try to face the future and will use each other’s strengths to learn how to live again. Can they rewrite history, or in the end, will the tragedies of their pasts be too much?

My review:

While at times it's hard to remember, it's more painful to forget.

*ARC received via NetGalley in exchange for honest review*

Dani Hard has succeeded. Again. I don't think I've ever read books like hers. They're tough and the characters have the world betting against them, but at the same time, they're sweet and wonderful and make you happy like nothing else.

In the beginning of this book we're introduced to our main character, Freckles. She's been in an accident and has lost her memories - and not just memories of the accident, memories of her entire life. Along with her memories, her name, age, personality and previous feelings are gone. Devastating? Oh, yes, indeed.

There's a lot of things a book can do. It can make you cry, laugh, smile, sob, feel anger, hatred, happiness, sadness and so much more. But D. Hart's books? They have all of that and just so much more. There's not one single second while reading her books that you're not feeling something.

There. Look. A shooting star. Make a wish.

D. Hart has a particular way of writing books. She begins with a trauma and follows with how they got there and where they're going from there. I guess some people will think that it sounds like any other book. Oh, boy, how wrong you are if you truly believe that. Look it up on Goodreads. There's one person who's rated it 4 stars but her review is positive. Beat that, prejudiced bastards.

I related to a lot of her characters, once again. I could see one of my best friends in Freckles younger sister and the resemblance between them was almost terrifyingly alike. Books that you can relate to on a personal level they have some importance, don't they?

While I was finishing this I was in a public place so crying because of a book? People would've classified me as mentally crazy. I sobbed inwardly instead. For so long. The end broke me and I'm still not sure I'm okay. Tissues? Anyone?

I believe that I loved her other book, A Firefighter's Flame a bit more than this. This ending was better than A Firefighter's Flame though - 'cause that ending? Don't even think about mentioning that to me.
But I could relate a bit more to A Firefighter's Flame. And don't get me wrong here! Both of these books are a big part of my favorites and nothing will ever change that but one has to be honest with themselves, and not say things only because those things are preferred?

If you're in for a dark but still very happy read then, READ READ READ READ READ (shouty capitals, yes) this. Ironically enough, it's released today.

5 brilliant, brilliant stars.

People with hope fought.
People with purpose fought.
I surrendered.
